All processing is automated. The same published rules, thresholds, and reliability flags are applied to every member. Members who lack enough comparable years are labelled limited or insufficient data rather than omitted without explanation.

Basis and limitations

Source material includes public House Clerk annual reports and Senate electronic financial disclosure (eFD) annual reports, matched to a public congressional roster. The methodology page describes retrieval, parsing, eligibility thresholds, reliability flags, handling of scanned filings where validation passes, net-worth estimation, and known limitations.

Stated limitations include: values are ranges, not exact amounts; personal residences and some other items are generally not reportable assets; net-worth change can reflect salary, gifts, inheritance, and spending as well as investment results; and some filings (including many scanned or paper reports) could not be used. Figures imply nothing about wrongdoing by any person.

Independence and data-use note

Politics is Good Business is an independent information project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Congress, the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Office of the Clerk, or any government body, political party, or campaign.

The underlying reports are public records of the House and Senate and are subject to the use restrictions stated by those bodies (5 U.S.C. §13107(c)). The site carries no advertising, subscriptions, donation links, trackers, or fundraising.
